Wish I could take credit for this, but my mom came up with this awesome idea! 
Store sewing materials such as pins, bobbins, measuring tale , etc. in little metal containers (these were purchased at Hobby Lobby).
Buy a clearanced metal board anywhere you can find it! Then purchase plain, strong magnets.
Store sewing supplies directly in the containers and they will stick to the metal which sticks to the board.
I now store my stuff in the laundry room and love this idea because the magnet doesn't have to be permanently attached to the container.
