Painted Jars

Here is another easy craft I recreated from a gift I had received. All you need to do is paint a cleaned glass jar, add a knob for a handle, and voila- the perfect counter candy holder.
It's such a fun and easy thing to do, and it doesn't cost hardly anything.

Here is one of my first examples prior to adding the knob. I'm not an artist, but I am getting a little better each time.

This is also a really easy craft to do with your kids. Caleb and I painted a pickle jar to use as a storage container for dishwasher detergent. The possibilities are endless :) and way to repurpose and recycle!!

Simple Word Wall

Everyone has seen the letters at hobby lobby. But perhaps some of you had the same issue with them as I did- they are white and girlie.

So, my husband and I thought of buying them and painting each letter in a different animal print to match the 'slightly jungle' theme in the nursery.

Then, reality hit, with a 4 year old and a newborn there wasn't enough time to complete the project.

Hints, the creation of boy stripped letters as shown below. All I used was blue and yellow paint and mixed them to make a different shade for each letter. Next, I created patterns just by using painter's tape~ that's it! Love having another baby blessing to decorate for :)!!

Valentine Blessings

Valentine's Day around our house is nothing to brag about. It's not a day full of romance, however I did receive roses delivered in Wal-Mart wrapping paper (you know, the bag) and that's about as good as it gets. I'm not complaining about that, after all it's still a day with extra chocolate :).

This year Valentine's Day was a little more exciting than normal because I had the great opportunity of baking sugar cookies for the men at my husband's job. Let me clarify that last statement, I sold them to the guys he works with so they could enjoy or share them.

Needless to say, I learned a few things in the process. Like baking and icing over 120 sugar cookies in one day is a task... a LONG task. BUT it was fun and definitely worth it.

I supported Hobby Lobby and WalMart with the decorative bags, but I felt like they added a nice touch. These pictures don't show all the different colored icing, but enough to get the picture.

The BEST part of Valentine's day was spending time with my blessings. One of which insisted on not having a pink heart cookie, so green was a better choice for him.

And the other one celebrated his first Valentine's Day EVER. I already warned you that we are not super festive, but I tried to dress Zachary in red, and in perfect fashion the only red onesie was a baseball onesie (perfectly fine with me and my husband). :)

Oh! I also felt like I should share the sign Caleb was greeted by when he went to school on that day because it was SOOOOO sweet- the full sign read: 

UR HEART + JESUS = TRUE LOVE 4 EVER

Sunshine and Ladybugs

As a stay at home mom, I think it goes with out saying that beautiful weather makes a huge difference in how the day goes. Just the other day we were outside enjoying playtime at the end of January in short sleeves and sandals. Caleb discovered a ladybug in his playground and thought he needed to share it with his baby brother. Plus, like most kids, he enjoyed directing the bug from hand to hand. I have always loved ladybugs, even when I was kid I played many of softball games as a "Ladybug" but on this warm winter day, I learned another way to appreciate them.

Seeing God's beauty in His creation, even in the smallest creatures, is a special thing to share with our children. It is important to not only enjoy and remember these moments, but to use them as an opportunity to share the love and truth about God. For Deuteronomy 11:19 says that we are to speak the truth about God to children, " Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." 

And that is exactly what I was able to do with Caleb's Ladybug. We discussed the 'polka dots' on the insect's back, and how God knows the exact number of dots, just like God knows the exact number of hairs on our head. Why? Because God is all knowing, powerful, and because He cares. God loves all of His creation, which is a truth that Caleb needs to hear. 

Do I think Caleb's life has been changed by our ladybug discussion? Not necessarily, but I do feel that it was a seed planted. May we all be encouraged to remember to let a simple thing, like a ladybug, be an avenue to share TRUTH, and may we always enjoy blessings like sunshine and ladybugs with those we love. 

Painted Projects

So I received this super cute flower pot for Christmas and I absolutely love it. :)

 I recreated it on a smaller scale using paint and a paint pen. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Oh, and I also tried to make a giraffe print one. Not necessarily perfect, but cute enough (hey, I tried!!). I'm not really a painter, but I do enjoy it.

This onesie and burp cloth was made for a former student of mine and her first born precious baby girl. In a world of pink for girls and blue for boys, I like the idea of having more color options for each sex, hints the use of blue and green in the onesie.
